I do not recommend MSE because I have had to remove more malware from computers running MSE than any one real-time (up to date) AV. I don't anti-virus software, either! i know it is personal preference, but i will stick with MSE and malwarebytes for now and see how it works for me. I have been using only MSE/Windows Defender and Windows Firewall for the better part of 3 years now without a single problem. You should learn what not to click on or install because no combination of antivirus is 100% effective. The end user would be the main problem and should learn about online safety before reconnecting to the internet.

Since these are just my personal experiences on the matter, gleaned from having to clean viruses off of Avast, Norton, McAfee, Avira, etc "protected" computers, and routinely scanning my MSE/WD protected do. Why is it that M$ with all its money, all its supposed technical expertise, all its supposed dedication to excellence, all its bright programmers, cannot turn out software that is secure Avast Free Antivirus 5.

All of this and I still get the occasional virus, but I can usually fix that with a boot-time scan, a Windows Defender Offline (for boot) scan, and a Windows Repair We hadn't encountered any malware, even after performing scans with other antivirus programs to get a second opinion. The one computer I have Avast on just reminds me two or three times a day how much I hate it.

In the tests, McAfee blocked one piece of software outright without warning the user it was doing so, and attempted to black another by warning the user. We'd like to apologize for continuing to recommend Microsoft Security Essentials for so long, in spite of the poor test results. If MSE detects malware, the filesystem driver will block acces to the incomplete file (access denied). Haven't read the article myself.
