If you used Windows System Restore, it will not affect your files, as it "affects Windows system files, programs, and registry settings. The system image will remain small, so you can probably get away with a 1TB hard drive for backup. That is why it is a good idea to use external hard drive or a partition that is on a differnt drive than that of C: drive. Thanks again.
