Windows Update Not Checking Automatically


I tried solving the problem following almost every reply to this question, and the duplicate one here on SuperUser without solving. I did it on mine as I didn't have any other indication……ended up with 178 updates!!! In my case, the Windows Defender update will not install, and I will now try to at least hide that pesky reminder in Windows Update.
